Abstract

Abstract: This research is an attempt to evaluate the awareness of, and knowledge about, Global Climate Change amongst a university student population in Thailand. The research centered on a basic questionnaire which was distributed amongst the students of Burapha University during the month of November 2013. The questionnaire had 10 questions and was distributed by students of BUUIC under the supervision of Ajarn John Griffith.

The results of the survey can be summarized as follows: Almost 60% of students knew about climate change with over half the respondents claiming to know a lot or something about the topic. Approx. 90% had heard of greenhouse gases and believed that human activities were causing the earth to become warmer.

When questioned in more detail however there was considerable confusion amongst the respondents on technical issues relating to global climate change. Most thought that the greenhouse effect was bad for the world.  While over 75% identified carbon dioxide as a greenhouse only a minority had clear knowledge of matters like fossil fuels and their uses. Approx 60% knew that most cars use fossil fuels but less than 20% were aware of the IPCC.
