Abstract

Biotransformation of pinene was carried out using Aspergillus niger. The fungi were cultured by using SMG medium added pinene in the incubator shaker at 250 rpm, 27°C. After incubation the culture supernatant was extracted using diethyl ether and the products were assayed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and gas chromatography (GC). The TLC chromatogram showed three spots with values of 0.62, 0.45 and 0.31. The analyzed by gas chromatography show separated peaks at retention time 10.31, 11.45, 13.47 and 13.75 minute. The products at retention time 10.31 and 11.45 minute was identical to with pinene and verbenone standard respectively. The result indicated that A. niger was able to transform pinene. It has been alternative to develop value of natural product.
