Last modified: 2014-06-02
Abstract
We have prepared multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) that coating with poly(acetic acid) (PAA) as water-soluble polymer (MWCNTS/PAA) and used anionic surfactant (SDS) by admicellar polymerization and investigated its assistance in improving the dispersion of carbon nanotubes by using water in media. Sample characterization includes: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), it was believed that SDS coating on the surface of the MWCNTs and then interacted with PAA. It also found that characterization of the MWCNTs/PAA based on Scaning Eletron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, The hydrophilic test via Contact angle, the effectiveness of the surface modification was demonstrated by significantly improved solubility and stability in water, and further quantified by zeta potential. Lastly, the mechanical properties of MWCNTS/PAA was examined. The results show that the mechanical properties of the MWCNTs by coating the water-soluble polymer film had the improvement comparing with MWCNTs without coating water-soluble polymer film
