Abstract

The present feedstock used in producing biodiesel was expensive. In this research used “Palm Stearin” consisting of high acid value (10 mg KOH/g oil), to produce biodiesel and study the effects of storage on the properties of PSB(palm stearin biodiesel). Esterification and transesterification were used to produce the biodiesel. Testing by fill Tert-Butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) 0ppm, 500ppm, 1,000ppm and 2,000ppm to biodiesel and stored for 18 weeks. The properties of biodiesel were investigated by the measurement of kinematic viscosity, acid value, iodine value and Induction time. The results showed oxidation stability and iodine value reference timing storage were reduced, the acid value and viscosity increased over time. Adding TBHQ made the properties of biodiesel better than biodiesel not having TBHQ, and the higher amount of this antioxidant used could reduce the impact of storage on properties of biodiesel.
