Abstract

The potential of kaolinite and coconut shell charcoal ceramic filter to remove Cd and Cr in synthetic drinking water was investigated in this study. At1.0 mg/L of Cr concentration, the breakthrough point of filter at ratio of kaolinite and charcoal 90:10 and 80:20 by weight was found at 1.28 L and 7.26 L, respectively. This point, however, could not be observed in Cd. This result of study suggested the higher efficiency of ceramic filter ratio 80:20 than the filter ratio 90:10 to remove these metals in drinking water. The concentrations of Cd and Cr in treated drinking water were in acceptable level of drinking water although the pH level was relatively high.
