Abstract

The present study was to evaluate antioxidant activity of pigment from Streptomyces species CH54-8 isolated from mangrove sediment, Chanthaburi, Thailand. The sample was serially diluted and plated on Starch casein agar and actinomycetes were isolated. The broth culture for fermentation process was the International Streptomyces Project-2 (ISP-2) medium and extracellular metabolite was extracted using the ethyl acetate. The antioxidant potential of the ethyl acetate extract was assessed by ABTS radical scavenging activity with IC50 of 31.95+8.71 μg/ml. The pigment from crude extract was partially purified by column chromatography and HPLC. The bioactive pigment fraction exhibited strong ABTS free radical scavenging activity.
