Abstract

Abstract

Gas to Liquid (GTL) fuel has been taken as most promising alternative high quality clean diesel fuel to substitute fossils fuel crisis in a near future for CI engine. In this paper the analyses of physical and chemical properties of GTL blends with a commercial diesel were conducted. Then the experimental study has been performed to measure injection rate of diesel fuel and GTL blends. Six fuels were tested: namely diesel fuel, four GTL-diesel blends: 20% (G20), 40% (G40), 60% (G60), 80% (G80) and pure GTL (G100) using Zeuch method and comparison has been made. The experiment has been carried out using a common rail system with a six-hole solenoid-operated injector. Initial conditions were ambient temperature, 0.75 ms injection duration, back pressure of 45 bar and 605 bar rail pressure. The result showed that most of the properties of blended fuel have good linear relationship with the GTL weight fraction in the blends and  GTL has higher injection rate than commercial diesel although the density of GTL is 6.86% lower while viscosity 6.64% higher than that of commercial diesel.
