Tourist Motivation and Satisfaction Case of : West Sumatra Province, Indonesia

Abstract


One among top ten tourist destinations registered by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Indonesia is West Sumatera Province. In Government of  Republic Indonesia Regulation No. 50 Year 2011 about  Rencana Induk Pembangunan Kepariwisataan Nasional (RIPPARNAS) 2010 – 2025, West Sumatera included in one among 50 national tourism destination, 88 strategic area and also included in 222 regional development. Prideaux and Crosswell suggested that It is important to understand tourists’ motivations and  post-visit satisfaction levels when planning for and  marketing tourism destinations. This study aims to examine tourist’s demography, the level of tourist motivation and satisfaction and also to investigate the affect of tourist demography to motivation and satisfaction, the affect of the motivation towards tourist satisfaction. The proposed study designed a questionnaire and distribute it among  204 tourists who are visiting West Sumatera in a two months period of year 2014. The information gathered is analyzed using T-test, ANOVA and Regression. The result perform the level of tourist’s motivation and satisfaction, the correlation of the tourist’s demography, motivation and satisfaction then be useful for stakeholders who make the planning and marketing West Sumatera destination.
