Tourist Behavior and Satisfaction through Backpacking: Case of Jalan Jaksa, Jakarta, Indonesia

Abstract


Backpacking is becoming an increasingly commonplace rite of passage for today’s independent tourists. So much so that it is not only a small niche segment anymore but is turning into a sizeable market for some destinations. This research focuses on backpacking tourism activities in Jakarta as capital city of Indonesia, with using Jalan Jaksa, a central backpackers and independent tourist district as the research area. This research explores the demographic characteristics and behavior of international tourists and investigates which attributes that satisfy international tourists who visit Jakarta. Correlation study as the type of this research, questionnaire were used to as the primary data from 250 international tourists with purposive sampling method. The overall purpose of this research was to understand why they are visiting Jalan Jaksa and the possibilities of Jakarta for being a backpacker destination. The result of this research could be as the input and references to local government, entrepreneurs, and other related sectors of tourism industry in Jakarta especially around Jalan Jaksa.
