Employee Retention in Hotel Businesses

Abstract


Generally, human resources management is one of the most important management aspects in hotel businesses operation. In Thailand, both Thai and non-Thai hotel businesses are now facing difficulties in managing their human resources and handling with increased level of employee turnover.

 

As of this, various human resources management (HRM) strategies are applied within hotel businesses, and some strategies are applied for the advance used. These strategies aim to the result of creating satisfaction and reducing dissatisfaction among employees. Not only hotel businesses perform HRM strategies to control their workforce for the most suitable of their businesses, but also using HRM strategies to maintain employees’ intention to stay with their businesses. Moreover, these HRM strategies are an inclusive of strategies using for retaining employees and how these hotel businesses manage to reduce their employee turnover level.

 

The purpose of this study is to investigate various human resources management strategies at a corporate level which various leading brands are using with their business operation, including exploring factors or causes that lead to the employees’ resignation and eventually affecting the level of employee turnover.

 

Qualitative research methods, through interviews, were used as data collection process in this research study while thematic analysis was applied for data analysis which compared the different approaches among different brands. The respondents are Corporate Director of Human Resources, or employee at a relevant level, representative on behalf of the brand, in various Thai and non-Thai brands and hotel businesses.

 

There will be a comparison between Thai and non-Thai brands related to how they manage HRM strategies and how they retain their employees. Also, the result will show major causes and factors which lead to employees’ resignation. Recommendation for HRM will also be provided.
