Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate bioactive activities in peel extracts of three Musa species as Musa sapientum, Musa AAA group and Musa acuminate. Two types of extracts (fresh and dried extract) were evaluated for antioxidant and antityrosinase activities. The highest total phenolic content (3.70 mg GAE/g dried weight) was obtained from the sonication and stirred extract of dried peel of Musa AAA group. The antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated by using DPPH free radical, ABTS and FRAP assay. The homogenization and stirred extract of dried peel of Musa AAA group was showed both the maximum activity of DPPH and TEAC (EC50 20.59±11.32 µg/ml and 2.00±0.03 µg/ml). Meanwhile, the highest activity of FRAP was shown by most of the sonication and stirred extract of fresh peel of M. acuminate (8.21 mmol Fe2+/g). The homogenization and stirred extract of fresh peel of M. acuminate showed percentages of tyrosinase inhibitory activity of 73.82%
