Abstract

This descriptive predicting study aimed to examine factors predicted physical activity among persons with type 2 diabetes in Thai Nguyen Hospital, Viet Nam. The 82 diabetes patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected by simple random sampling technique during March to April, 2014. The instruments consisted of The Demographic data, The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ), The Knowledge of Physical Activity Questionnaire (KPAQ), Exercise Barriers Scale (EBS), Exercise Self - Efficacy Scale (ESES), and Social Support for Exercise Questionnaire (SSEQ). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Multiple Regression.

The results of the study show that 47.6% participants perform physical activity less than 1.5 to 3 hours per week. The mean scores of physical activity knowledge were close to the average score. The mean scores of perceived barriers were higher than the average score. The mean score of perceived self - efficacy and social support were lower than the average score. Perceived barriers, perceived self - efficacy and social support could predict 68% (R2 = .68, F[4,77] = 41.26, p < .001) physical activity (β = -.50, p < .001, β = .25, p < .05, β = .25, p < .05, respectively).

The findings suggested that nurses should concern in improving physical activity behavior among persons with type 2 diabetes.
