Abstract

The descriptive correlational study aimed to examine the relationship between organizational commitment, supervisory support, and nurse’s job satisfaction within the context of the government specialized hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was hypothesized organizational commitment and supervisory support would be significantly positive correlated with the nurse’s job satisfaction. Data were collected by using self-administered questionnaires from the random sample of 126 nurses at a specialized hospital.  The organizational commitment was measured by the modified Meyer and Allen’s Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, supervisory support scale was measured by the modified the scale of Fukui, Rapp, Goscha, Marty, and Ezell, and nurse’s job satisfaction was measured by the modified Spector’s job satisfaction survey. Data were analyzed by descriptive and pearson’s product-moment correlation statistics.

The result of the study showed that total nurses perceived a moderate level of organizational commitment ( M = 43.79; SD = 5.76), supervisory support ( M = 46.88; SD = 5.71), and job satisfaction ( M = 146.06; SD = 18.29). There was a moderate positive significant correlation between organizational commitment and job satisfaction(r = 31, p < .01) and moderate positive significant correlation between supervisory support and job satisfaction (r = .26, p < .01).

In conclusion, the significant relationship between organizational commitment, supervisory support, and nurse’s job satisfaction is still important for determining the dimension of organizational commitment, supervisory support contributing to nurse’s job satisfaction. Nurse administrators should emphasize on creating and maintaining a positive and favorable organizational commitment, supervisory support that will contribute in increasing the nurse’s job satisfaction in Bangladesh.
