FACTORS RELATED TO HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG HF PATIENTS IN VINH PHUC PROVINCE, VIETNAM

Abstract


This study aimed to the relationships between the selected factors including age,comorbidities, severity of symptoms, social support, and health-related qualityof life (HRQOL) among HF patients in Vinh Phuc province. Ninety twosamples calculated based on Tamane’s formula met the inclusion criteria andthen were recruited randomly. Data were collected by fivequestionnaires: Demographic and Clinical Data Questionnaire, Medical OutcomesStudy Short Form-36 (SF-36) Questionnaire, Charlson Co-morbidities Index Questionnaire,Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale-Short Form Questionnaire, and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived SocialSupport Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and Pearson product moment correlationcoefficient were used to analyze the data.               The findings of thisstudy revealed that patients with HF perceived their total HRQOL at thelow level (= 46.2, SD = 6.6). There was only social support factor whichcorrelated to the HRQOL of HF patients.  Based on thesefindings, nurses and other healthcare providers should concern to facilitatesocial support for HF patients in order to promote their HRQOL or overall quality of life. Studing HRQOL of HF patients in another unit should be suggested asfuture research. Keywords:HF patients,Health-related quality oflife, Co-morbidities, severity of symptoms.
