Abstract

The purpose of this correlation study were to examine health behaviors and determine the relationship between gender, duration of hypertension since diagnosis, perceived self-efficacy, emotional well-being, perceived social support, and health behaviors of Vietnamese patients with hypertension. Simple random sampling was used to recruit the sample of 90 participants who visited the Hypertension Outpatient Clinicof Thai Nguyen National General hospital, Vietnam. Instruments included demographic questionnaire, the Hypertension-Self-care Activity Level Effects (H-SCALE), the Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale (PSS), the WHO (5) well-being index scale (W5I), and the Personal Resource Questionnaire (PRQ 2000). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman Range correlation. Results revealed that there were positive relationships between health behaviors and gender (r= .434, p< .01), health behaviors and duration of hypertension (r= .595, p< .01), ), health behaviors and perceived self-efficacy (r= .734, p< .01), ), health behaviors and emotional well-being (r= .622, p< .01), and health behaviors and perceived social support (r= .578, p< .01).The results provide a better understanding of health behaviors in Vietnamese patients with hypertension. Future research should focus on nursing interventions based on female gender, patients with early diagnosis, and utilize perceived self-efficacy, emotional well-being, and social support as key components.
